Your network’s safe with him – School News Network

Editor’s note: Your Dream is Our Dream: Celebrating Student Success brings you conversations with students about their dreams and the educators who ignite and inspire them. In a new series from School News Network, students from all levels of education share in their own words and pictures how learning connects them to achieving their goals and exploring their ambitions. An initiative of Kent ISD, Your Dream is Our Dream showcases student success and how teaching and learning help make dreams come true.

Kent ISD — Nicholas James is a senior at West Michigan Aviation Academy and in the Network & Cyber Security program at Kent Career Tech Center.

What is your dream? What do you hope to do as a career or occupation? “I would say my dream is to become a cyber security analyst. I want to be able to help secure systems, figure out how people get in and create a safer network wherever I am. My plan after high school is to go to Ferris State University and get a degree in cyber security.”

Why is this your dream? “This is my dream because I love technology. I love seeing the physical side but also how computers communicate on the network side of things. Cyber security stood out to me among the many careers as the one that I would enjoy the best, as well as gain the most valuable experience out of.”

How are school and your teachers helping you achieve your dream? “The teachers at KCTC have been invaluable to me. They have taught me all the basics I could have asked for, they have presented me with information about job opportunities and scholarships and they have been the people I can come to when I have a question about anything in the IT field.”
